Born and raised in Penang, Dr. Lye Hun Yeow is a professor in Buddhist Studies in the United States. He received his doctoral degree in 2003 from the University of Virginia and he has been teaching in the US since.
He specializes in both Chinese and Tibetan Buddhism and is both a scholar and a practitioner. He has received teachings and trainings from Theravadin, Pure Land, Chan/Zen and various lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. He is also the founder and president of a new Buddhist community in North Carolina USA known as "Urban Dharma" .
Dr. Lye has organized international Buddhist Studies conferences, delivered academic lectures, given Dharma teachings and led meditation retreats in the US and in Asia. In the last few years he has also led several pilgrimages to Tibet and Ladakh.
